Controlled substance (especially drug) use, abuse, or addiction among employees and others in your workforce can cause expensive problems for your operation that include lost concentration/productivity, absenteeism, injuries, fatalities, illegal transactions, theft, and low employee morale. It can also lead to an increase in health care, legal liability, and workers' compensation costs. From creating the organizational policies through providing direct access to initiate the drug/alcohol screens, BCGSmartCheck gives you the hands-on support to turn a potentially damaging situation into a program for success.

Urine and hair tests are performed by LabCorp or Quest Diagnostics (chosen by the employer at startup). All paperwork is digital and the employee or applicant brings their script or registration number and a valid government photo to the testing center. BCGSmartCheck can schedule the appointment for the specimen collection or the applicant can go as a walk in. Test results are reported within 1 business day (if negative) and could take 2 to 3 business days (if positive).

Saliva tests are performed in two stages. The first stage is administered on the spot by the employer's Human Resources (or resident health) professional. Positive drug results then trigger a second controlled test (again performed by the employer's HR or health professional) which is reviewed/reported by Clinical Reference Laboratory. Brandywine works with each client to set these policies and procedures. Test results are determined within 30 minutes (if negative) and could take 2 to 3 business days for lab confirmation (if positive).

Urine Tests - these detect recent use (last 3 to 5 days):

DOT 10-Drug Panel

Provides a DOT compliant employment test that meets the stricter level of analysis and reporting required by the Department of Transportation. As with the standard 10-Panel test, this reveals the use of any of the following ten types of drugs: Amphetamines/Methamphetamines (including Ecstasy), Opioids (including Codeine, Morphine, Heroin and semi-synthetic opiates), Cocaine, Marijuana, Phencyclidine (PCP), Barbiturates, Benzodiazepine, Methadone, Methaqualone, and Propoxyphene.

Saliva Tests - these detect immediately-recent use (last 3 to 24 hours):

5-Drug Panel

Reveals the use of any of the following five types of drugs: Amphetamines, Methamphetamines (including Ecstasy), Opioids (including Codeine, Morphine, Heroin and semi-synthetic opiates), Cocaine, and Marijuana.

6-Drug Panel

Reveals the use of any of the following six types of drugs: Amphetamines, Methamphetamines (including Ecstasy), Opioids (including Codeine, Morphine, Heroin and semi-synthetic opiates), Cocaine, Marijuana, and Phencyclidine (PCP).

Alcohol Only

Reveals the presence of alcohol currently in the blood (from 0.02% to 0.30%).

Hair Tests - these detect prior use (drug use over the past 90 days):

5-Drug Panel

When compared with urine testing, hair testing provides nearly twice the number of positives due to its longer detection window. This test reveals the use of any of the following five types of drugs: Amphetamines/Methamphetamines (including Ecstasy), Opioids (including Codeine, Morphine, Heroin and semi-synthetic opiates), Cocaine, Marijuana, and Phencyclidine (PCP).

Post-Employment Random Drug and Alcohol Testing:

Based on the policies of the client, BCGSmartCheck sets up and administers a programmed plan for random drug and/or alcohol testing of employees. Once in place, employees are randomly selected for testing and are notified in writing. Client policies dictate frequency and re-testing parameters as well as whether the tests will be 5, 6 or 10-Panel tests conducted using hair (most common), urine or saliva testing. Using this protocol, the client is insulated from any complaints about selection frequency or randomness.
